Default Question on 6263376 bellhousing

I am getting ready to reinstall my clutch, flywheel. tranny ( M20 Muncie ) and bellhousing. Pulled everything out to replace the clutch.
I ordered a Flywheel cover from Ricks ( mine was missing ) and then discovered it did not fit the bellhousing.
Further checking showed my bellhousing was a 6263376 that seems to be a truck bellhousing for a 5 bolt tranny.
Is this a concern??
Everything seemed to work before I pulled it apart.
Some posts state the tranny will not line up properly since the hole is bigger. It looks like if everything is bolted up the tranny has to be in the center.
This is a BB 396, 68 coupe
Is there a potential problem if I just put everything back like it was with a new clutch.
Should I look for the proper bellhousing ( VERY short on funds right now )
Need advice on whether to proceed with reassembly or stop and get a new bellhousing.

Thanks
Ray

Thumbs up Re: Question on 6263376 bellhousing

Ray,

I have no idea but I will say that there may be a chance that you have a bellhousing for a MOPAR A833 OD tranny??? (Note: GM did use such a tranny in the mid '80's behind some of their corporate engines..)...

As for regular P/U bellhousings, a guy sell's a ring that you can insert into the hole to reduce it down so that a Muncie tranny will center in it if you want to and you have a regular P/U bellhousing vs the A833 OD tranny one??

Here is the info I saved just for this!

"However, GM cast literally millions of the 460 486 bellhousing to cover the larger flywheel and clutch in 1970's light trucks, both 6 and 8 cylinder. The problem is the Muncie SM 465 truck transmissions had a 5 1/8" (5.125) front bearing retainer, so you can't use it with the smaller car transmissions.

Luckily, a 4 11/16" x 5 1/8" bushing is available from Novak part # BR-4 (about $40) at www.novak-adapt.com or 877-602-1500. His username is: dennymac

I bought one of the adapter rings, and used the truck bellhousing, which cost $25 at my local salvage yard, where they use the truck bellhousings for door stops.

The 486 dust cover is GM part #340 254."
