First of all I'm fairly new to team camaro and I know very little about suspension, but i'm learning. I have a 67 coupe with a mono leaf setup with caltracs. The previous owner had solid bushings in it, (He raced it a little bit) I bought the shackles from ricks and am trying to install them. My problem is I can't get the solid bushing out!!! The top one came out by hand but the bottom one won't budge. If I can't get it out without killing myself, I was thinking of switching to multis anyway and ditching the caltracs. Any suggestions?? Also I was looking at Betts for springs because of locality,1 hour from my house. I seen there was a group purchase a few years back and was wondering if anybody had any feedback about the springs. Ease of installing, ride, price, performance. Anything would be greatly appreciated. Right now my car is sitting up on stands and it's killing me not to be able to drive it!!

Give that a read. You may need a press to get them out. |

You can press them out, or if you are cheap like me you can cut them out. The solid bushing that was in mine was made of aluminum and my cordless sawzall cut right through it.

baz67, It sounds like betts my not be as good as I was told (not by team camaro) they were. Any suggestions on a decent 3 leaf that won't break the bank?

I figure that any reputable dedicated spring/h-d suspension shop that works almost totally on this should be able to fix you right up.
I do know there is a place in St. Louis that makes/sell's them b/c at least one or two of the guys are running them. AND there are leaf spring manufacturer's that make/sell them too so again look in the phone book or a set of Thomas Registers as well as the good old WWW. I bought mine from JCW but I think they ran out and quit selling them. You might look in their latest cat. or punch them up on the web and search their e-cat. Mine were under the '68 and later NOVA cars as h-d 3-leafs.. And the price was right imho.. Heck, search here under 3-leaf and see what myself and others have said too! pdq67 |

Well I finally got the bushings out. The new bushings slid right in, they seem a little sloppy to me. but thats not the big problem. they don't sit tight against the spring!! With the bushings together they measure 2 1/4" the spring eye is 2 3/4"????? Remember I bought these from ricks and they seem pretty reputible. Can I trim a 1/4 off each bushing to make them tight? ohh the ones on the frame fit together. so by triming the bottom ones they won't be the same length as the top. Is this a major problem?? I'm trying to get the car done tonight so a quick response would be great
