Thought that ya'll might want to see the 69 RS Z28 That just came out of a long storage. Car is missing original DZ but the rest is there (balancer & pulleys are on the current mill) It has the original paint except for the pass front fender and the top of the pass quarter. 44k miles sitting in a dry basement for the last 15 or so years. Factory Endura, guages, console, cowl hood spoilers, posi. The paint has the standard Laquer Checks, the paint is fairly presentable, we are most likely going to blow in a few of the worst places with some laquer but other than a good cleaning just drive and play with it.

I wish, I checked the car over before the purchase for a good friend. This is his first muscle car. I would have killed to have a car as nice as this one for a first purchase. I am going to do the minor repairs and refurbishment, he wanted a unique car that not too many people had and he likes the character that original cars have, he doesn't care if the paint is not perfect, he want to drive it.

Took the seats and carpet out today... behind the tarboard rear seat and trunk divider... X3 on the pass side rear seat bracing.
Also found a piece of a news paper between the sound deadener and the floorboard on the driver side rear... talks about enemy casuaties in Vietnam.
The overspray and the seam sealer details are amazing... will post pics later... Gotta go find more stuff.
Taking lots of pics... don't worry!

The car came out of Piedmont SC.
My friends father was at a wedding, the reception was at the bride's mother's house. The car was in the garage... had only been there for 2 weeks.
Turns out her father (grandfather of the bride) bought the car when it was 6 months old and drag raced it extensively. He passed in the 80's, the car sat for a few years and then the owners father asked to come get the car to drive it. He and another son drove it off and on until the late 80's.
He passed recently and she was told that it was hers that she should come get it. My buddy's father saw the car and asked about it... she said that she would sell it but was not actively marketing it.
Needless to say everybody in the family and some friends asked to buy the car, but no one wanted or could afford to give what it was worth. She also wanted to make sure that the car went to someone who would appreciate it. We looked at it on Thursday May 4th and they hit us with a price 40k... we looked saw that the DZ was missing and made an offer on Friday... (had the DZ been there we would have paid the asking price on the spot). The offer was accepted. I told the buyer to go and take the cashiers check to the owner and get the bill of sale done and the title.
He didn't, he was going on Sunday... in the mean time a friend came in and said he wanted the car and made an offer... much less than ours... she gave the guy time and he matched the offer.. we upped ours to close to the 40k she wanted and the other guy got mad and flipped out, cursing and being irrate. They called and said it's yours on Friday the 12th we had a roll back and a cashiers check there that afternoon.
She said that she never wanted to see it again... that her family was mad at her and her family's friends were mad as well... even her 16 year old daughter wanted the car.

The friend who tried to buy it worked on the car with the owner and let on that he knew where the engine was after he thought that the car was his.
Turns out it "seized up" ...probably spun a rod bearing during it's drag racing career.
Getting the engine is probably going to be next to impossible now given that the guy who knows it's whereabouts got out bid on the car.
He is fit to be tied.

Great Find!! Awesome car i love the color combo. I had a 10 10 coded 69 Z/28 back in the mid 80's That I sold to A dealer in Denver CO. I sure miss that car. In fact it was VIN 12437L525975. when the car was sold it still had the original DZ. Does any one on this site have my old car?

Sorry James, It's a serious question.. I'm not wanting to offend at all.
It's also a beautiful car but the code and color aren't a match..
I'm wondering if there ever were rare mismatches from the factory with regards the trim tag info..

I'm still jealous! :)
