Default Engine details

I am painting my Fan Blade, fan spacer, battery tray, a water pump etc. I have a document that I pulled from this site that references the Camaro National Seminar and the Jerry MacNeish 67 Z/28 book. Although I don't have a Z/28, I figured it would be close if not the same for most parts. In the column labeled Camaro National Seminar it might simply say gloss black, then in the Jerry MacNeish column it has more detail and might say gloss black-60%gloss, or 30-60%gloss. My questions are:

1.What are the differences between the percentages, and what are the over the counter names of spray bombs in these percentages? I have seen Rustoleum gloss black, is this 100% gloss? I have also seen Satin, is this a percentage of gloss?

2. For the Chevy Orange parts I bought a can of paint from Classic Industries called Pro-Touch engine color for $34.95. Then I seen Chevy engine paint at Pep Boys for $4.99, think made by Duplicolor. Is the cheaper stuff just as good? Would I use the Chevy red/orange or just the Chevy orange, I have a 67? I could save a few bucks if go with the latter choice.

Sorrry about the long questions, thanks in advance

Jerry

Default Re: Engine details

Though I am not an expert I believe the colors are all the same for first generations as far as under the hood. The precentages have to do with the sheen naturally and I would think ultimately the different areas of GM/suppliers the componets came from before final assembly.

Rustoleum 7777 is "da bomb" you are looking for for under the hood engine compartment fan pulleys etc. Jerry uses it himself for touch ups, this is a semi black. He used a VHT product "Hi Temp" for my exhaust manifolds.
Duplicolor works well along with others for engine componets.

Of course you can have all the colors mentioned in the "definitive" book mixed at you auto paint store. $$$$

Good luck with your project and post some pictures!
