Default Rebuilding My 302 How Can I Make Sure Its Done Right?

Just gave my 302 dz to be rebuilt the only original parts being kept is the heads, intake, pink rods,
crank, oil baffled, and 4 bolt caps the block is going to a 0.30 over
all the rest will be new, what parts what are the best to replace the original parts
i want to keep it real to the factory specs but i also want to make it more bullet proof
also want to ask about the crank my machine shop says that it doesn't need to be heat treated
but it had been turn to 10 10 already now its going to 20 20 don't it need to be retreated
any info you can give thanks

Welcome to Team Camaro. To make it bullet proof shift at 5500-6000 rpm. Otherwise use a good set of new rods. There was no surface hardening left on the crank when it went to 10/10. That was a racing thing and probably not worth doing for a street engine.

I used the Crane Blueprint 30-30 camshaft. Wiseco makes 11:1 off the shelf pistons for the 302. You will get a ton of information using the search function and ton more opinions on how to build a 302.

Cool Re: Rebuilding My 302 How Can I Make Sure Its Done Right?

Personally I would not rebuild the original engine. I would pull it as is, bag it and tag it and store it in a safe place. Then I would build a modern equivalent that revs as high and sounds as bad using all new aftermarket parts that have no sentimental value.

Just like in the "Bionic Man" lead in we can rebuild it, "stronger, better" than before. Use a 400 block with 350 journals, a forged 327 or 350 crank shaft and really long forged rods (6.0" +) AFR CNC heads painted orange if you want, and a solid roller cam, with a Edelbrock RPM intake, and a Holley HP street carb. Choose your pistons to run pump gas and you will have a motor that doesn't have to see 4000RPM to start pulling, and has crisp throttle response for street driving. With all forged 4340 parts in the short block even with a 377 (350 crank) you can still rev with the best of the 302's.

Whatever you do, do not let them deck the numbers off the front of the block.

Why? I never really understood this approach. Save it for what?

caliz, you did not say if it is the numbers engine from your car. If it is not, then sell it and build it as larger dave said.
