Im in the process of replacing my floor pans. Is there a primer and undercoats system I can use to put my mine at ease that rust will never show its face again in that spot?

Mike, I did this in my Chevelle and I feel pretty good about the way it came out. After cutting out ALL the rusty metal and then mig welding in the new panels I ground everything smooth and then wire brushed all the residue off everything. Then I painted the whole thing with 2 coats of semigloss POR15. After that I used a standard primer and then painted it with acrylic enamel paint.
I dont care for the rubberized undercoat but you could also cover the paint with that for extra insurance. Ron. |

Well I cut all my pans out and got it ready for welding, took it into the local classic auto body shop to have them weld the new pans in and primer, paint and seal etc., etc. The price for this is going to cost me $450.00, is this a reasonable price? He says it will take him approx. 12 hrs labor to complete. This is for both front pans and one rear.
Thanks |

Hey Mike, I dont know what his hourly rate is but 12 hours sounds about right. Its a pretty big job that gets pretty messy and involved.

I like to finish my posts with the outcome. My floor pans turned out great, The shop missed some spots underneath on the painting but Im going to get it myself (atleast done correctly). I just finished installing my new carpet, I used carpet bought from Auto Custom Carpet in Anniston Alabama, It fit like a glove, highly recommend it. Thanks for all the advice.
