A previous owner of my '69 painted the bumpers (front red and rear black). Yep-they look like crud. My question what to do now. These bumpers are straight and are the originals. Should I sandblast or will a rechroming shop get the old paint off before rechroming? Better and cheaper to do this rather than buying new ones? Thanks for any advise. MIke

Personally, I would chemical strip them but it would be safest to check with the chrome shop to see what they recommend. They might be able to dip-strip them and save you a lot of hassle!

No need to replace them if they're in that good of shape, and you're planning to have them rechromed.
Just give them to the rechromer and let them worry about it. The original chrome was probably sanded or blasted so the paint would stick. They're originals! Keep 'em!

A rechromed 35 year old bumper is much better than a 1 day old reproduction!!! The bumper specialists can straighten, and smooth most bumpers to look better than new.
