First, congrats!
Second, you DON'T need emblems for it right now! (If ever) Probably the first things you need to address are: Brakes (check everything it's 22+ years old) Front end (all those parts are just as old) All the structural parts (yes I know that Colorado is the land little rust) but please check all the body and suspension mounts If this is your first car, don't bother with the radio, it's a distraction and you'll NEED all of that $750! Windshield is a MUST a cracked one is dangerous and a moving violation. I *think* the tranny is a metric 200 with the 2.5L, might want to look into other, more horsepower friendly options rather than rebuilding that tranny. (I'm no 2.5L 3rd gen expert) After ALL that then I'd look into swapping a 305 (or 350) and 700r4. The 2.5L isn't enough engine for that HEAVY car, and 17mpg is what I get on a ragged out 305 (with 350 injectors) and a 700R4 (when the speedo cable used to work), when I'm driving it in town...20+ happens every so often... The 2.5 just isn't enough, it gets overworked and is therefore inefficent... Heck the 3.1 V6 wasn't enough (nor was the 2.8 V6), but it still gets better milage than the 2.5 This isn't to say you have a bad car, but the 2.5L is just bringing a soft plush toy to a gunfight! Save the $750, you'll need that for routine maintance. Save up MORE (3X or more) and then we'll talk about other stuff, maybe... Also check out www.thirdgen.org lots of good ideas! Cognates' on the Camaro.
![]() Start with the safety and drivability issues first. I would tackle it in this basic order. Proper working brakes New windshield Basic tune up (oil change, air filter, plugs, plug wires, ect..) Decent tires (new cheap tires, or good used tires) Fix the locks Then if the tranny seams to work ok for now look into a radio and things like that.
