Default Dyno 2000...how accurate?

Hi all,

i ran this program with my current setup, and come up with 360hp@5200rpm, and 419 lbft@3500rpm which sounds about right, but when i changed head info i get around 440hp@5700, and about the same for torque, i just don't believe that. I used dart s/r torquer, and afr 180 for comparison with about 10hp difference between them. Does 80+ hp gain seem right for these heads? Thanks..Michael

current setup if interested

383 with approx 9.3 comp, using .041 head gasket, and flat tops with 4 valve reliefs

did you put in flow #s, or the file for it?
if the flow #s are much higher, you'll get a big diff. in power.

these progams just guesstimate the power, but if you've built
any motors and dynoed them - you can ussually make a better
guesstimation then the programs is what I've found.

It has been my experience that Dyno2000 is not as accurate as Engine Analyzer from Performance Trends. I tested 3 engines with both (because I was curious and the engines were going to the engine dyno) and saw that DD was off by 20hp while EA was within 10. In one case, EA was within 5 hp and torque was spot on.

One thing to note is that I spent a lot of time programming the information, it wasn't a quick-click and go.

Dyno 2000 is pretty 'old' - I don't think its even made anymore.

Let us know your 050 duration numbers and we can run it to see how it compares

Yeah i plugged in the flow #'s for all 3 heads, and came up those figures. I'm guessing a max of around 380hp with s/r's, and maybe 400hp with the afr... with my setup this might be realistic.

I get a +26 hp gain going from the 882's to the S/R Torquer.

The 440 hp you have seems way up there for your camshaft and intake, no matter which heads are used.

I went from home ported and polished stock 400 heads (76cc,1.94/1.60 valves) to 200 cc Protoplines (72cc,2.05/1.60 valves) which bumped compression from est. 9.5 to 10.17 actual and went from 13.2@103 to 12.3@110. Doing the rough math comes out to 70-80HP at the wheels or 100+ at the flywheel(maybe more??)

So yes it can be that much, but I don't trust DD2K 100%.

*for every MPH increase it's about 10hp
or
*for every .1 faster it's about 10hp
**This is for 11's and slower cars (rough estimate)

You can make 440hp with that tiny cam if you have a good set of ported heads, more comp (around 10.5), an rpm intake, HP750, and 1 3/4" headers. My 383 made 490hp/495tq with a 224/224 hyd. roller cam.

Doug
A 7mph increase is around 70hp at the flywheel, which is still good.

Not to argue but 7mph = 70 @ flywheel is about 40-50 at wheels ? correct???

I was always told the above...

Man those numbers are depressing, i appreciate all the responses, and thanks rhamm1320 for running it thru your program. I don't know where begin now...is it even possible to achive 350hp, and 400lb ft of torque by swapping out one or the other? i figured that cam wasn't too far off from chevys 350hp grind, granted back then they didn't have the 882's but with 2.02 int, and some bowl work they would of been comparable. Inputs are welcome at this point...thanks.

That cam is quite a bit smaller than either the -962, 350hp/350 hy-cam or the earlier, -151, 350hp/327 hy-cam!
