Default Emergency Brake Cable Installation

I just received all new "OER" Emergency/Park Brake cable parts for my 69 which has all drum brakes and a manual transmission. No instructions included and the original Emergency/Park Brake cables/fastners, etc had all been removed, so I don't have any point of reference as to what goes where and how attached/adjusted. Can someone refer me to some installation instructions & pictures? Thanks, Charlie

Hopefully this will help - I can't seem to link directly to it, but check out http://www.inlinetube.com/ - click on "installation", and you should find a link to a pdf file on parking brake cable installation of 67-69 F-body cars. It's not very specific, but hopefully it will give you an idea.

Does anyone have a picture or drawing of how the parts inside the rear drum go? Mine is missing the emergency brake parts inside the drum and I want to put them back in. All cables are either on or with the car, it's just missing the lever arm and spreader bar / spring. I can get them.

THanks!

Mike

Mike,

I don't normally reply but I feel your pain, bro. I recently installed
the stock e-brake system on my '68. This car was stripped of the
entire system!

To get to your question. I used the following books as references
on this project:

1) Chiltons Camaro manual #28280. Pg. 9-17 thru 9-21.

2) Camaro Owners handbook by Ron Sessions. Pg. 171 thru 173.

3) Camaro Restoration Handbook by Tom Currao and Ron Sessions.
Pg. 51

4) Chevrolet Chassis Service Manual (reproduction) #st 130-68
Section 5.

Unfortunately, I have not found anything on the web depicting
the answer to your question.

Fortunately by using the aforementioned reference guides, you can
successfully piece together the e-brake system.

E-mail me if you run into a snag.

Good Luck,

Randy

Mike M & R-Dawg, I don't have access to the noted manuals & unfortunately, my emergency brake cables had all been removed before I got the car. Can anyone tell me/show me via a hand written diagram/picture, just how/where the cable attaches once it comes in from the rear wheel backing plate? I just don't see the obvious point of connection. Thanks, Charlie ps: Mike, I see you had the same exact issue. Did you get your's attached and if so, can you tell me how the cable attached to the inner brake assembly?

I have a few pics of my dissassembly and reassembly of the brakes on my 68. I don't know if they are the same but I can E mail you those pics if you would like.

O.K. Mike,

I know where your at so far (?). On the passenger side, the rear
cable goes thru the backing plate. Push the multi-spring fingers
thru the hole.

Once that is completed, you should have enough cable with a
small steel tab at the end. Attach the tab to parking brake shoe
lever. The top of the lever is underneath the adjusting lever and
is in contact with the horizontal parking brake strut.

I got my parts from Rick's first generation. In case you do not
have the parts:

Item#

1) PB-21 RH park brake shoe lever set.

2) PB-22 LH park brake shoe lever set.

You've almost got it completed. Hang in there.
