Default Timing Cover Seal ?

I have a 8" balancer with a groove cut in it from the seal. Or at least I think that's how it got there. Is there a offset seal made so that the lip is relocated a bit.

They make a sleeve that goes over the damaged part, available at all parts places.

Don,

Thanks for turning on the light switch. I actually have another 6.75 that has the sleeve and didn't realize why it was there. I was thinking the solution would be more like an offset axle bearing seal. I'll pick up a sleeve.

Make sure the seal sleeve goes on straight and use the whole tube of sealant between the sleeve and h/bal.

You can use a place on the smooth concrete floor for the face of the balancer and a block of wood squarely on top of the sleeve. Make a direct straight/square blow with a BFH to install. Of course, a 12-ton press will do nicely.

And when you put it all together,, wipe a little glob of RTV on the key way slot on the balancer to seal out any oil that may want to leak thru the keyway... Use a good 6 point hardened crankshaft bolt and washer to lock it all down...Arp and Mr Gasket make a nice set, Loctite on the bolt threads.

Save your rear main bearing thrust surface,, use the proper harmonic balancer installer, not the 10# ford tool .

Thanks for the install tips. I have a shop press and a balancer installation tool so hopefully it will go well.

You can use a shop but you can also tap the sleeve on (with a little rtv inside it) with a little block of wood and a 5# ford tool. Just make sure you go straight. Watch closely and you will see the sleeve swell some. You are done.
