I have a '67 rs ss, with a deluxe interior I am in the midst of restoring. My package tray is obviously not an original; could someone describe its original condition? ie. made of hardboard? glued down? any underlying insulation or foam? Any asistance would be greatly appreciated....thanks

I am facing the same in the near future, this car is much like yours and had the option of the rear speakers and it is a convertible. Could someone tell a bit about the tray with speakers also? Any recomendations on the speakers to put in? Mounting etc.

Denver, yours is a convertible (lucky guy) so I don't know. White RS/SS, check out any vendor whatsoever. Everybody has package trays. Almost every catalog has a good description and most have pictures. There are a zillion Camaro parts companies out there. You have the easiest car to find parts for. If you have a roof and shift tunnel you can build a Camaro. Check with any vendor. A bunch are online. Isn't this site sponsored by Ground Up Restoration parts? Did you check with them. Any effort and you will be pleasantly surprised. Ricks First Generation is online, Check with Classic Industries, National Parts Depot, the list goes on and on

Guys, I have already gotten a package tray cover from Year One. It is a thin overlay-like material that I would think is bonded, or otherwise attached to hardboard or something else. It also has an attachment on its front that is probably folded and glued to the front surface of the tray area to form a divider between the package tray area and the rear seat. As you can see, I'm still not clear on what that area should look like, and me restoration books do not cover it.

Sorry, I'm as confused as you now. I looked at my brother in laws 69 RS/Z that has the original package tray (although its not in perfect shape) and it appears to be a piece of thin cardboard with the covering over it. Didn't think to look in the trunk to see what was under it. Looking through a couple catalogs it appears they sell them with a backing or without but don't mention which is original unless they are just giving the option of buying the pieces seperately. So basically I have no idea and will be quiet now

i believe you are supoose to put jute padding under the tray. this is the same type of material that is behind the rear seat to act as a sound deadner. most supply books will have them precut, but any local upolstry store sould carry it or know where to get it if you are handy with a knife. when i did mine i got a piece big enough to redo the back seat too and just made a 1 piece. not exactly as stock, but works better.
