Well, The engine is in place, and the intake is mounted. I had to take out 7/8 inch for the manifold to clear the steel cowl hood. Once the intake was welded up I had it powder coated silver. I still have to wire it up, install fans, and bolt up the battery. I'm hoping to start it up in a week or so. Here are some pics...

I'd like to see those Tom, we did a 70 El Camino with the same motor, thankfully the stock cowl hood was high enough. I'm thinking about the 502 RJ in a 72 Camaro.

NICE. What software are you running? How are you going to route the cold air intake?

JJarky, I'm running stock ecm/software. It runs great except that when I let off the excelerator RPM dips below idle then raises. Sounds like it's going to stall...then comes back to idle...

Hi Tom! My ramjet 502 is about to go in the '69 project I just bought. But I was seriously considering swapping to a carb before I read your post. (I might still, but not just because of the height issue. The project is also missing the wiring harness, fuel pump, install guide, diagnostic tool, and proper fuel lines. And since it was built in 12/2001 I believe it is an MEFI3 controller which some have said is a little trouble-prone?)
Since the shop is about 45 minutes away... Do you remember any obstructions below that made you stop at 7/8" or was that just all that you needed? Also, since the issue is in the front would it make sense to trim the front a little more or would a small height difference disrupt the fuel/air delivery? I was thinking about painting my intake red to match the engine compartment anyway so cutting/welding/grinding shouldn't be a big deal. Thanks for sharing a great idea!! Jason |
