Default 3rd gen gauge needle removal

ok, noob question, and first post here as well (Hi all )....

but how does one remove the speedo needle on an '86Z?

I've got a few bulbs out on the cluster and have figured out how to get all but the speedo gauge off. Is there a tool, or do I just need to pull harder?

TIA for any input.

Be carefull about pulling harder. I pulled on my needle until the shaft just snapped. However, with a little care, I put a drop of epoxy on the end of the shaft and supported the needle on the shaft until it hardened. It hasn't come loose in twenty years. The only problem is that I indexed the needle about 2-3 MPH off.

Are you trying to dis-assemble the speedo or just remove it from the cluster?

I've just added white face to my 92. If your just replacing the bulb then you don't need to remove the needle. The bulb socket is in the back and it just twist off. The bulbs are then soildered in so you have to pry the little wires loose. I replace all my bulbs with green ones to set off the white face gauges. It looks great.
