ok, i asked the fender emblem ?, now i have another. while looking at other ss's and cars for sale i notice that many of them have the whole front grill area (around the headlights, bumper, inner fenders and everything) not just the grill, painted black. my car (see signature) is painted orange around where the headlights are except for the grill. which is correct?

All 69's that I have restored I painted the grill surround the same as the body. My Camaro books show the same.

Odds are that they're not painted black instead they're unpainted black plastic replacement units.

Kevin is right, the GM units come black, at least the RS one. The area around the lights and behind the bumper should be painted the body color. The grille area itself should be silver, except for the following cars...cars with the SS package, or RS package, had the grille painted black. Non-RS equipped Z28's had a silver grille.
