Default 1968 Chevy Camaro RS/SS BB Auto

I am a little reluctant to post this here as I have seen TC posts drive up the price on ebay, and I would like to bid on this car. I am hoping the feedback from the forum will outweigh the risk of the bid going up, so here goes:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

Additional info not in the auction:
Has a 12 bolt, block has been decked and the only casting date I could read was on the intake and it was 2 months after the car was built. So I am going on NOM, but original BB. Missing some RS parts but may be original RS. No tach, interior needs work, console stirrup shifter, solid floors and frame, quarters original but patched, paint is nice driver, but not show.
Whats a realistic bid?

All 68 SS and Z-28,s came with a low fuel lite in the dash.located next to the turn signal. I don,t know if its a real BB unless looking at it. He doesn,t say any info on a low fuel lite. Could be a RS with a BB.Hope this helps

I think they generally drive the price in a downward motion. Most Ebay cars are greatly over-inflated due to "creative" bidding. Just be patient, most Ebay cars are listed 3-4 times.

good luck

hmmm....

Just to set this right...

Only cars with the optional guage package had the low fuel light. Guages were optional on all camaros, and not standard on any. Plenty of Z's & SS's running around with nothing but a speedo and fuel guage.

RS was also optional on any model.

BBC (& 350) were SS only.

I had a 68 BB 396/375 hp with no tach or cosole, but had the tach wire neatly tucked away behind the Fuel gauge.

Flynn69,

That wire must have been for something else. The 68 Camaro used a printed circuit board for the dash gauges and didn't use a separate tach wire. Do you remember what color it was? Orange maybe? If so, it was for the glove box light, which was optional if your car had the standard interior.

Suggestions for verification are appreciated, but what I am looking for is a estimated dollar value bassed on the following assumptions:
Original RS/SS BB AC AT
NOM, not date correct, but period correct 396
missing some RS and AC parts
Interior needs work
Paint is driver quality

I am thinking ~$20K, am I in the ballpark?

I agree. 20 grand would be a fair price.

IMO nothing is a about reality when it comes to Ebay $20k may be a fair price but I bet the reserve is much higher(28-30K+). BB 1st gen Camaros are rarely listed for less than 25k anymore even if the drivetrain is not original. Being an RS/SS BB will also add a bunch t the price. It looks like a pretty car. You might snoop around craigslist for the car. A lot of time they are listed on both and sometimes you can sniff out the reserve. Or you could ask directly. Good Luck.
