Question 68 Carpet install advice needed

Hey guys, got my new carpet centered and lined up for the console and shifter, but not sure how far the carpet goes up the sides around the kick panels. Don't want to trim anything until the seats are in and I have some advice on the front area.

Glue or no glue?

(And yes, I tore the old original out before taking note of how it lined up. It was glued down and I was too anxious to rip it out when I started the restoral.)

Thanks again everyone!

You can do a search for more detail, but make sure you leave extra room around the kick panels and scuff plates. Guys have told stories of the carpet settling and coming out from under both those areas. Remember that the back of the front piece stops at the front feet on the seat glides. As for the rear piece, lots of guys bolt the seats to the carpet, but the general cut out a flap (3 sides of the rectangle, and left the aft side uncut to fold back) Then after bolting down the seats, the flap was folded back over the bolts.

Start installation from Driver's side to passagener side not firewall to back seat, slip carpet under kick panle enought to get dimmer switch rubber trimmed hole over dimmer switch. Do over all assement of carpet alignment looking at both sides and squarness of carpet to interior space. attach Driverside door chrome kick plate smooth out wrinkles by hand. Locate seat mounting holes with a needle or sharp scribe, then use soldering iron or wood burner tip to make the hole for the seat attaching bolts and seatbelt attaching points. Bolt in seats and seatbelts as you go to keep carpet from streaching out and causing lumps smooth the carpet out as it goes over the drive shaft hump and repeat the process of mounting, burning the bolt mounting holes and seat belt for the passangers side working your way to the passangers side door seal and kick plate. These are just general guidlines that I used to install my carpet in my 69 and the end result was a factory fresh look. I would also recommend the use of NOS padding kits as well Good Luck!!

Thanks guys! Finishing the passenger side today. Had/have issues with the rear side panels, decided to take them off again and glue the vinyl to the backside of the boards. My other 68 had the extra material tucked under the windlace and sill plates, doesn't look right to me, and makes the moulding bulge all over.

Sterted her up last night for the first time in 8 months....MEAN!! Can't wait the 3 weeks it will take to finish.
