Any idea on what this engine is worth? Its suffix is LE (Impala SS) The heads appear to match the engine. It does have some issues and will need to be gone through.
Thanks, Joe |

Well, it is is out of a Impala, it is most likely a low horse 2 bolt which are plentifull. It could be a rare 425HP 4 bolt from a Impala, but I highly doubt it. If it is a 4 bolt, you have something. COPO, YENKO, Big horse Vette to name a few.

Hey Rich, that info is correct. It is the 335 hp 2 bolt block.. Anyone have any idea on what its value is.. Looking at going back to a small block.
Thanks guys. Joe |

Problem is that even for a clone it is externaly different then a 4 bolt. As for value of the 2 bolt, I am to far out of the loop anymore to know.

Not all that different. A machine shop could convert it in a few hours. A set of 4 bolt caps, align bore, redrill and tap around oil filter, and viola, a 4 bolt. I see nothing dishonest about that, as long as you do not deck the "LE" off.

Well, I was thinking somewhere between 1,500 and 2K.. I would think any BBC is pretty much worth that.. Any thoughts?

Joe, if you remember, I sold a complete "LE" about two years ago for $1,800.00, so I think that for a complete engine, $2,000 would be the minimum that I would sell for. I bet you could get +/- $2,500.00 on the sleez bay easily. The 427/425 complete engines are selling north of $5,000, and some rebuilt models 67-69 are approaching 10,000.00 (asking, not sure if any are selling for that).
Prodigy: Other than the 2bolt / 4bolt, what other visual differances are there? I think they are minor. With the absence(sp) of 427 dated 69's, I am seeing alot of 454's and 402's "dressed up" as 427's. At least with this engine the "tribute" car would actually have a 427 in it, IMHO. Joe: FWIW, I would not even go through the trouble of making it a 4 bolt main engine. It is what it is, a correctly dated 69 427 out of an Impala SS. Yes, it is a low HP engine, but still a 1969 427. The real question is, is this a complete running engine? What are the Head dates and casting numbers? Rich |

As unreal stated, a machine shop can fix the difference. I hardly think it could be a tribute car with the heads / intake also. It is not much of a tribute if it is a 69 427 low horse motor that was never available in the car it is tributing (is that a word?). I would think it would be more of a tribute if it was a wrong date 4 bolt with the right guts? And heads, etc. I am not saying it is not worth money, But I feel it is not a good tribute motor unless someone wants to spend the money to make it correct. I called my engine guy. About $1500 will make it all correct including the caps, bolts, and drilling and plug.

$1500 for caps?
That no one can even see under the oil pan? That 1500 would be MUCH better spent upgrading the internals, intake or heads, IMHO. Still think it is much better than the 402's and 454's in the 69's. |

First, I (Joe P - Correct me if I am wrong) this is a complete, running engine, currently in a car. Secondly, I can't find any 1969 dated 427 blocks that have ended on Ebay and sold for less than $1,000.00 I have found these 427 two bolt block/engines though: 1968 2bolt dated complete motor, 1966 Heads SOLD - $2900.00 Here is a 1966 380hp IE Impala SS BARE block SOLD $2576.00 Bare blocks are VERY expensive to make full engines, intake, heads, pulleys etc can add up quick. Also, finding 69 dated items that match is a real pain. |

there was a bunch under $1000.00 some are pick up only
I've seen 427 tall decks under $300.00 which can be made to run good with the right parts if you're not looking for a resto engine I was trying to buy a 1967 427 for $2000.00 but the guy would not get it crack checked for me unless I paid him for the engine. I offered to pay for the crack check but he said no so I didn't buy it try these |

OK, not to get into a pi$$ing match, but:
#1 is out of a 70 Impala based on the suffix code, it's a 454 not a 427, AND it's a bare block. apples and oranges. #2 not enough information, but is either a 396, 402 or 427 based on casting alone. Seller ended early, no longer for sale, so how do you know what it sold for? #3 is also a 454, it's a 512 block, but dated cast in September 70, heads casting comes up as: 3993820....71-84...oval...OPEN...454 Passenger and Trucks, 113cc chamber, 255/114 ports. Again, Seller ended early, no longer for sale, so how do you know what it sold for? I still say, show me these 427's that are selling for less than $1,000.00? I can't seem to find them. Rich |

It is more then just caps. There is machining for the caps on the block, the cost of the caps, the line bore, and there is other machining besides the caps to make it correct.
If you only looking for a couple grand it should easily do that
