Did not buy doors from Classic Industries but have purchased both 1/4s, rear body panel, and both front fenders for my 68. Quality was okay (not outstanding). The 1/4s seem alittle better than the fenders. Some minor fender fit problems with doors but nothing that is not fixable with alittle work..

This question has come up a couple times with no answers. I am curious as to the craftsmanship myself. Maybe everyone is scared to try them after all the bad repro stories.

You may be correct. I have a few repo parts on my 69 body ( taillight section and rear 1/4's(full panels)) and have been very happy with the quality. Maybe the reason for no reply is for 67-69 door have just become available. My Classic Industries catalog says coming soon and its about a year old.

Lucky for me, one of my first jobs out of college(1990) was for a GM dealership and I could still purchase factory body panels at cost + 10%. For example my factory cowl hood only cost me +- $200.00 Boy, how times have changed.

I asked them about their doors about 5 months ago and they were not available yet. They have been in the catalog for quite some time though.

There is a company called Jimmysbowtie, he has a salvage yard in tennesee, I called them today b/c I have good 67 doors but my car is a 68. He sells complete, glass and all, and those without so you use your own parts. He said they take the old doors, blast them and put new door skins on all of them. He wants 375 each uncomplete and 475 complete. I need to sell the 67 doors before I can run off and buy 68's, I would like to trade for 68's if someone has them for 67's. I beleive the number to Jimmys is 1800414jims but I know the web site is www.jimmysbowtie.com

I think the product is just too new to judge and no one is quite sure if the doors are in fact "in stock". If it is anything similar to other industries, many times products such as these are put into catalogs and the like to see what the market holds. (is there a lot of response etc, before the tooling and cost is incurred to actually produce the doors) I've seen these in the books for quite some time and actually called once to check on availability. Doors, like front fenders, can become a real pain to fit properly, especially if you become real critical about body lines, flushness etc. I'd try to search out a good used shell, have a new skin put on it if it needs one and go with that. It may cost a little more in the long run, but a door is one piece of body metal which is used and fatigued the most out of all others.

Just my thoughts.

Wink

door update: I now have 2 doors on order with Classic Industries but they still are not in stock. They estimated delivery time is Jan. / Feb. 2001
I am sure glad my project is a long term one...it would be funny driving my car down the street without doors.
Classic Industires did say the door will be 1st class because with a door you cant hide or cut on quality. The current price is 249.00 a door but if your a VIP member you get 10% off. The salesperson did hint that the price may be much more when they actually get them in stock but would give the current price at the time they were ordered.

Just remember an old qoate of a friend of mine. If the repro supplier wanted to be honest, he would put in the catalog, "Similar to original, can be used if nothing else is available" If you don't hope for to much then you will be happy. There are some repro parts out there that are downright PERFECT, but only a rare few. The rest are "similar" some more than others, but they are just "similar"

Don't forget to fill us in once you do get them. Interested in knowing what a repro bare door weighs. Hopefully they are as good as they say
