Guys, I'm hoping you can help me out. I'm new here, over from Team Chevelle. I have a 64 Chevelle SS and have been approached by someone about a trade and I have NO IDEA what it's worth. Here's the specs that he sent me. Can you give me an idea as to what it's worth? I have pics but can't post them here. It's a very nice looking car. It's allegedly a restored, numbers matching 69 Camaro.
"Here are a few shots of my Camaro. Honestly, this car is stunning. You have to see it in person to really appreciate it. It's just gone through a restoration and shows excellent. The Camaro is a very correct and unmolested 53k mile, number matching car. The car still had stock manifolds which you don't see much any more. The transmission is an optional 350 turbo trans and has new performance dual exhaust that looks and sounds awesome along with an aluminum intake with a single 4 barrel. It has power steering and manual brakes. The drive train is excellent and I would not be afraid to go anywhere in this car. No rattles, no squeaks, no air nose - very solid. The car has been in northern California all its life, and was built in the Los Angeles (Van Nuys) plant and thus has no x-code on fire wall. The fire wall tag designates 50/50 paint code (Artic White) which is less than 2 yrs old and is stunning. At this time, the car was restored. The interior is 711 standard black, and it is a standard sport coupe with steel cowl hood, front and rear spoilers and added correct black "hockey stick" side strips and SS badges. Plant Built Los Angeles, CA (Van Nuys) Build #17219 Month built: October, 1968 Motor Plant: T = Tonawanda, NY Date Built: January 11 DD=? Small V8 3 speed turbo 350 trans Vin #19L517219 Block #19L517219 #12437 = 69 Camaro Sport Coupe Trim #711 Paint Code: 50 B J -371 (not sure)" |

Well...
The VIN is right for a mid January 69 LA car, not October 68 like he has listed. That's good, if the engine assembly stamp is T0111DD. DD is the correct suffix for a 69 307/200HP with TH350. FWIW, the paint code 50 is Dover White, not Arctic (that's a modern GM color) and it should have a black vinyl top. It was not an SS with a 307 and drum brakes, so it's not badged correctly. A properly restored documented 69 base V8 car is probably a $15 to $20K car, depending on how solid and nice it is. This one is not exactly correct from the description, so... Hard to say without pictures and an idea of where the car is. How nice is the Chevelle? I personally like the 64. If it has a decent engine under the hood, it should show nothing but taillights to a 307 auto 69 Camaro.

Guys, this is exactly the type of information I'm looking for. Please keep it coming! The 307 definitely wouldn't keep up with the Chevelle. The Chevelle sports a 454 that's worked up a little bit. It puts out about 475hp. I think the Chevelle is worth between $15-16k. If he wants to trade me even up, I would probably do it, otherwise unless you tell me it's worth a bunch more, I don't think I'm interested.
He says he has over $28k into the car but didn't propose a trade so i don't know what he's thinking. I think my drive train is worth much more than his, but his paint and body is superior to mine. I don't know how to post pics. If somebody wants to help, I can email them. Thanks! |

At least Dynacorn hasn't started selling full 64 Chevelle body shells yet...
Seriously, although the Camaro is a lot more popular right now, nobody can tell if it will keep going up. If you are shoeing a 475HP A-body, an F-body with half that power will be hard to live with. And, when (because it will be when) you'd start modifying the Camaro, you'd lose some of the value. Unless you make it into one of the 15.5 million 69 Z/28s on the road today

Hey, I just looked at your link on Team Chevelle. We must be nearly neighbors.
Looking at your car, I'd say the 307 69 would have to be a rotissere restored car before I'd trade even up. You still needing a body shop?

Where are you located? I'm near Downingtown. I found a shop...place called Bent Metal Customs. I'm not going to keep the car, though, so I don't need it now. So you're saying that the car's not worth all that much because it doesn't have much going on in the drive train?
Are you able to post pics? I can send you some if you can post em. PM me your email if you can do it. If not, no big deal. |

Well, Downingtown is pretty far away, like 4 miles. I'm out by Marsh Creek Lake, with a D-town address.
Shoot me an email at ekammerer@terranearpmc.com, and I'll post the pics for you.

Nice looking car from what I can see, but there's not a lot to go on here.
![]() ![]() ![]() I guess the guys can comment, but normally we'd look at the underside too. Then we offer to have someone local with 1st gen knowledge to have a look for you. If the car is near you, I guess that would be me...

Thanks again, Eric. The car is in N. California so I don't think I'll be seeing it anytime soon. I'll ask for more pics including the underside and see what i come up with.
Is the hood correct?? |

Not for a base car. Hood is RPO ZL-2, required SS or Z/28.
Flying to NorCal sounds good to me.

I'm really more of a '65 fan but, dang! That's a pretty car! It's easy for me to choose since there are 2 Camaros in the garage but , I still think I'd keep your Chevelle. Did I mention that's a pretty car?

Keep the Chevelle (my vote). I have a 67 Camaro (best year
), but that Chevelle is beautiful. It is a nice choice to have to make.
