Default 12 bolt rear set up.

Just got a estimate of $250 to install my new gears and set up the backlash in my camaro 12 bolt. This is just labor without any parts and it seems high to me. I was expecting around $100.

Thanks
Alan

Alan,

No, that's a pretty good price acutally. The last one I did was around 6 or 7 years ago and cost me $200.00 labor to install my parts.

Are they going to give any kind of warranty?

Ed

RS,

That is a good price. Some people charge alot more than that. Most shop labor rates today range from $65 per hour to $100 per hour or more. You need special tools to do that (dial indicator etc.).

The warranty is 30 days.

I'm more of a do-it-yourself guy so I would much rather spend the money on the set up kit than pay $250 for 2 hours worth of work from a shop.
I have a hard time trusting any auto shop, jiffy lube, or whatever.

When I had the front end aligned on my 69 after I rebuilt it I stood there just so there wasn't any funny stuff. Remember Ferris Beuller's day off?

Thanks
Alan

That is a good deal as far as I am concerned. Unless you have the tools and experience you might be better off letting them do it. Remember 'you get what you pay for' can get pretty expensive if you destroy your differential. The gears are pretty high once but very high twice. Especially with a warranty, I would pay the $250 and carry on somewhere else.
