Old guy called me tonight, said he's pretty sure he knows where a 69 z28 is, out in the country in a garage, believed may have come from Georgia a long time ago, said the body was good and they started to take the vinyl roof off and also did some sanding, believe it is a four speed, were all z28 four speed that year.
Anyway they quit working on it years ago, put the engine in a really nice 62 chevy I believe. They still have the chevy. Anyway I will find out this weekend, and I don't know anything about a z28, I use this forum mainly to improve my skills at body work. Could any of you possibly tell me what I need to look for, I will take a digital camera and anything else I need. I would really appreciate some help here if I could get it, then I will put the pictures and story on whats going on with this car, if it is there and a real z28, the old guy is pretty reliable when he tells me something. Help please. Rob

You'll want to start with the trim tag and VIN info, of course. Hopefully it will be an X code car.
Check for 12 bolt, multi leafs (likely 4). Exhaust hanger bracket welded to the driver side of the rear frame rail (will be visible behind the wheel). Single 3/8" fuel line (check under the car to make sure a return line hasnt been cut off) and PDB with the valve on the subframe under the driver's side door. Speedo hole coming through the firewall just above and to the driver side of the trans tunnel (not near the fuse block). Make note of the tach if it has one. These arent necessarily definitive, but a good start of what to look for.

Also check that engine in the 62. See if it is stamped DZ on the pad, and depending on where/when the car was built, it could have the VIN stamped in the same area.
And to answer your earlier question, all first gen Zs were 4spds.

DZ is the engine suffix for the 302 Z28 engine in 69.
X code is on the trim tag on the firewall denoting different trim packages, most will indicate the type of engine (Z and SB or BB SS). There were 7 different X codes, plus two for the Z11 and Z10 pace car appearance package. Z28 will be either X33 or X77. If its an LA built car, or a NOR built car before December of 68, there will be no X code on the trim tag.

No problem, man
When you go and look at the car, take as many pics as you can of it.

I will take a lot of pictures, I just hope its there, if the old guy said it is, it should be, he also knows a guy that has a 63 1/2 galaxie xl 390 with factory headers and 3 dueces. Also same guy with the galaxie has I believe a 67 pontiac full size with a 421, these two should be about 20 miles from me, I will look at those also, know anybody interested in them, those should be for sure, he's another old guy, the last two I don't know what shape there in. But if I remember he told me a while back there running and probably pretty decent.
People around here don't use the interent. Last year my son sold his 70 chevelle ss, and a guy that lives out in the country came in to look at it, and he has a business restoring chevelles and what not, I ask him if he ever got on the chevelle forum, said he didn't know anything about it, and didn't care, said he didn't have the time for stuff like that. Anyway thanks again Dave, you're a good man for giving all this information that probably took you a long time to seek out. Rob

If it turns out the engine in the 62 matches the Camaro, work hard to get that motor in the deal....or if necessary, buy both cars. A Z/28 with original block is worth significantly more than a doccumented Z with a non-original motor. Maybe as much as $20K more.

If it is a Norwood car built before the second week of Dec., take the rear seat back out and see if there is X3 or X7 written in chalk on the bulkhead behind the seat. They wrote the X and first letter of the code there sometime before they started stamping it on the trim tag.

Hey, good find you have. Please get all info and post. As for the Pontiac, to the right person a 421 Tripower car with 10 bolt wheels and factory headers is important to someone. Find out a little on this car also if you will. My guess its a Bonneville and loaded 421.

I would also like to see pics of the Galaxie and Pontiac.
Pontiac could be a 67 Bonneville SD, 421 CID, tri-power w/4-spd. Not many made, if I remember.
