Guys,
All of the sudden my IE wont finish loading a website. It starts looking and then just hangs. I thought it was my wireless network, but i moved the computer and wired it right to the cable modem. Cable modem appears to be getting the signal. Ive rebooted everything a few time. Ive played with security features and "repaired" my network. Any ideas? Im at work now but its frustrating because work blocks personal email accounts so i cant check it from here. thanks guys jeff

Does it just stop loading the page, or is it still trying to load the page and never finishes? Is the globe still spinning, or does it stop and give an incomplete page? Does the page give a time out error?

Amen. At least this will tell you if it is an IE problem or a Inet problem. www.getfirefox.com it's free. Also, upgrade to IE 7 Rich |

no graphics actually load. it has not given a time out yet. i think the flag may have stopped waving once. any ideas? If i try IE7 or firefox, i better make sure that the install is completely self contained so i can install from a thumb drive. if the install requires internet access, i might be screwed. any ideas if these installs are self contained? thanks

Turn modem off for 5 min then turn it back on again. It will reset and should fix your slow/no load problem.

Go to Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore and turn back the clock a week, this will not affect data stored on the system, it just changes settings in windows registry.
Also sounds like you might have some ad-aware software installed. Time to clean up shop with SpyBot which is free from www.safer-networking.org |

Is it just one website? May be trying to load an Active X control or other popup and it may be waiting for you to accept.
Use the same mentallity as troubleshooting problems with the Camaro, try the simple stuff first :-) |

Go into tools/internet opitions then hit all the default buttons.
Also check that the computer ip/subnet is the same as the router....set to auto. if not sure. Do u have just the one computer, try another see if still have the problem. IE is not the problem, it is a symyom of a problem that Firefox etc will not fix.

I had lots of problems with my computer, shutting down & not receiving Email. Last April I removed Norton, SpyBot Search & Destroy, Adaware SE Personal and installed Windows Live One Care and 99% of my computer problems went away.
It worked for me.

it's best, in my opinion, to approach these problems in an analytical fashion, rather than "throw out" possible solutions.
step 1 should be to confirm that you have internet service at your house before you start changing things inside the house. all network devices in your home (routers, cable modems, dsl modems, wireless access points) have a unique ip address that you can type in the browser's address window to check the device's connection status. read the installation manual that came with your cable or dsl modem to discover your modem's ip address and configuration information. first screen that comes up will likely confirm connection and configuration status. then make sure you have internet connectivity at the modem. if you don't, the problem may lie with your provider or more than likely you'll need to reset the modem--again, do it in the order and manner prescribed by the manufacturer. if there are other devices between your home computer(s) and the modem (e.g. wireless router), pull out the manuals that came with them and learn how to configure and reset them and check their connection status. If wired connections in the house can access the web when wireless can't, your wireless computer is probably latching onto someone else's access point. go to Network Connections in the Control Panel and play around with some of the options there (hint: "view available wireless networks" and "repair" are worth checking out). if you have internet at the modem and even hardwiring your computer to the modem can't buy you a web connection, try another computer before you start suspecting malware or other nefarious things. chances are if you get this far, the problem will go away and you will have no idea what caused the problem or what you did to fix it.

I started having a similar problem about 2-3 weeks ago. Using IE6.0 SP1, my browser crashes when I'm surfing ebay motors and I click on a particular type of collector car (crashes when it brings back the list of cars). Other websites are fine, I only have the problem on ebay.
