I have been getting a message of "keyboard not found" on initial boot for some time now. I use a Logitech cordless board and mouse. They both work good, but I did an update to their software a while ago and now I get the message. I have followed all the troubleshooting guides in MS and allways get the response that everything is working, but the computer will freeze-up and I have to do a manual shutdown with the button on the cpu. This doesn't happen every day, but a few times a week and I would like to "fix" this, if I can. I have a Gateway, XP home, service pack 2.
Anyone have a suggestion ?? Thanks

I checked the Logitech site, and they say: 1. Batteries 2. Reconnect the device.
It sounds like batteries or a range/interference problem with the wireless connection of the keyboard. You might want to try fresh batteries or keeping the keyboard in close proximity to the computer on startup. I'd ask "why are you turning off your computer every day?" Just leave it on... Some folks won't agree with that, but there's really no harm in leaving it on, and some would say its better for the computer to leave it running all the time anyways... Scott

The upgraded software I downloaded a while back includes a battery check feature, so I know their good. I unplugged the usb cord and put it back, and didn't get a message, so I moved it to a different port. Now it won't install correctly....says something is missing in the software link. I couldn't use the mouse or board at all....had to move the plug back where it was. I may need to contact Logitech for an install disc. I ordered these with the computer from Gateway, so the original software was already loaded and I don't have the knowledge or experience to try to find and reload it from the original discs.
I am of the "turn off the lights" crowd. If I'm not using the computer, I turn it off. I have read the reports on how much electricity this country could save (and the fossil fuel to produce it) if all the unneccessary computers were turned off when not in use. My small contribution to the solution of wasteful behavior. Besides, a lower electric bill leaves more money for Camaro parts...

Shut down the computer with the mouse disconnected. If you have another mouse (not usb) plug that in then restart. Go into Control Panel, then Add/Remove and uninstall the mouse software from Logitec. If its not listed there, use the Logitec uninstall to remove it. Restart the computer again then shut it down. Start it again put the cd in and then follow the install instructions on the Logitec software. It should say not to plug the USB mouse in until the software tells you to. See if that helps..

Oh well.....we gave it a shot !! I do remember doing an update on my BIOS from Gateway's site around the time the message started appearing......I wonder if that update thinks I'm supposed to have a serial keyboard ???

You could always do a System Restore to bring things back to where they were prior to the Bios updade.

You might check the bios, to see if USB Keyboard is enabled.
You can download drivers from Gateway website....

What the heck did I screw up hacking around already ?? Quote:
This all started with my windows running slow, so I decided to download and run CCleaner mentioned in another post. It seemed to work wonderfully...I got to pick which cookies to keep and it only dumps temp internet files more than 48 hours old. That way I keep the auto sign-in for sites I frequent. After it was done "cleaning", my computer ran like new !!! That's when it frooze up again.....has happen more often lately.....and I figured it had something to do with the start up message and went about trying to "fix" that. It still runs windows quickly and seems to operate OK, just can't figure out how to fix the problem creating the error message. If I knew for sure it doesn't have anything to do with the occasional freeze up, I will just go back to ignoring it...

Try the BIOS update again. I'd personally use a serial mouse and standard keyboard while I did the BIOS update and once it's done you can reboot, install the drivers for your keyboard and mouse and then use them as normal.
