Theyre both in pretty bad shape, but I wouldnt think they would be repops on these particular cars. Then again, I dont know much on 2nd gen tags.
With the second tag, maybe its similar to how all 69 tags had V8 body numbers, regardless of drivetrain?

it was my understanding the 'Fisher' made ALL camaro bodys with the 'V8' trim tag which actually meant absolutely nothing......the matching VIN was what told you what the car actually was...Pontiacs on the other hand werent made this way..right RamairDave?

The tags are real.
The second gen cars had the tag on top of the cowl, instead of mounted to the front of it. Because of that, water would pool right there. I have seen lots of those tags rotted away - pretty comon for them to look like that. Never heard of the 6cyl VIN thing, but I am not up on those 2nd gen cars.

I cant really say for sure on the early 2nd gens. In 72 or 73 the VIN configuration changed, and I'm not sure what/if any effect that had on the body number on the tag.

Taggs are real.. they both are mounted ontop of the cowl Drivers side behind spring.
In 73 at some point they switch over to the Hex screws ( imagine that happening in 69 ) and also the Vin has the T the denotes that it is a Z28 also..

Begining in 1972, Chevy placed the engine code in the 5th digit of the VIN #
For 1972 the 5th digit would be L for a Z28. In 1973 it would be T. That 1973 Z28 listed in the first link by wiskeesour looks real to me. It's alot harder to fake a VIN than a cowl tag. A fake cowl tag some people may frown upon. A VIN that is faked not only will be frowned upon but it could get you serious jail time with 6 ft 10 inch 415 lb guys like Bluto and Bubba. Not a pretty sight!! Here's a helfpul link. http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...second-gen.asp

As far as the second car...the guy says chevy did a lot of trim tag messups. I thought this also was the norm.

They did change to hex screws in late 73 and for the other one I have heard about GM messing up on the tags. It wasn't like they messed up all of them. Just some of them. I have only seen two and now including this one.
