My 69 Camaro currently has an RS front end (grill and headlight set up) that is not original. I would like to change back to a standard grill. Is this difficult? Are the fenders the same? Will I need some type of supports for the headlights? Any help is greatly appreciated.

What are your plans as far as the R/S nose you are removing? Looking to sell?

If your Camaro is a non-original RS you can easily switch back to the Standard Grill. You won't need any support brackets, you'll actually have to remove the support brackets that are needed for the RS headlamp housing in a non-original RS (This is because a real RS has different front fenders, but yours is not original and I assume you have the standard fenders). You can get all the parts at www.classicindustries.com for about $300 to $400. Hope this helps. Jay.

If you are taking off the RS front grill on your 69, I have a 69 and would like to put the hideaway light in it like the 69SS camaro. Is that the same as an RS camaro?

crazy69,
It takes more than just the hideaway headlights to be an RS, like headlight washers and backup lights below bumper. ------------------ 69 RS 350 (under construction) 98 GMC Sierra 1500, Z-71, X-cab, K&N |

I orginal thougth the same as you to make my 69 camaro a RS. After doing much research and taking with pervious owner, I found out I had a real SS. I orginal thought I bought a plan jain camaro with SS enblins and hood.
It looks like a complete pain in the butt to do the switch. You need fenders, all the front end little goodies, headlight switch, back up lights, etc. After all your hard work a pro will still be able to tell your car is not a RS and is value will be less. My too cents, go with a cowl hood. It is easer to do, look cooler to me, and will look more orginal. |
