I ordered an aftermarket air cleaner kit from Ground Up Restorations. I have a RS/Z28 with the ZL2 hood. With the air cleaner with the extention piece installed the hood does not close. Is it possible the people at Ground Up Restorations gave me the wrong kit, or pieces of the wrong kit. They sell chevelle parts, could they have given me some chevelle parts. Are there parts of the air cleaner that are interchangable with the 70 - 72 chevelle and 69 camaro. Is there a way to check if you have the right pieces. The Ground Up People can not tell me right now.

wgs22, There are a couple of hidden assumations with the cowl hood. The Z/28 spacer assumes you have the factory motor mounts 302/350 flavor and the Z/28 high rise holley intake. The 350 spacer assumes you have the same motor mounts and the low rise q jet manifold. If you have the 307/327 mounts and an aftermarket intake, all bets are off!

If your Z/28 has the stock pieces, they may have sent you the wrong spacer. The z/28 is around 3/4 in and the 350 is over 1 in. If you have some other combo, you may need to trim the spacer to fit.

I have a BB 70s Chevelle air cleaner and was told that the dimensions are the same as the 69 ones, I haven't proved it to myself yet. (not on car)

Another consideration is that the repro extension gasket is stiffer than oem. If your hood hinges are worn, they will push the hood up.
