Question

What is the diferance between an X-44 and a base care with no X code ?? This was really confusing when I was shopping for a 69 awhile ago. I know that only Norwood cars are X-coded but I never understood the diffrance between an X-44 wich is not a SS and the other X codes that are the SS and
Z-28

Starting in December, Norwood initiated the X code system to determine Style trims. This was so Fisher body new how to paint and which chrome trim to install. The trim did not necessarily designate SS or Z/28.
X11 was Style trim--could be 6 cyl, or 8 cyl plane jane or could be RS, or could be RS/SS 350
X22 was big block with style trim, could be RS/SS B/B
X33 Z/28 with Style trim--again could be RS Z/28
X44 was base plain jane (including most COPO)
X55 was base SS 350
X66 was base SS 396
X77 was base Z/28
