Mark Ring and I have been discussing this mirror that I was trying to sell.
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?...533&p=33775296

I pulled it off a highly optioned 69 SS with deluxe interior (car had the clock, defroster, remote mirror package) around 1979. The installation of the mirror and bezel looked factory, with no extra holes or non factory type cuts in door panel.

The date of the mirror is 9 DMI 8 (sept 68), but the base does not look the same as Mark's 69 one.

Does anyone have a 68 remote mirror? and does the base look like this one? It's possible from the date, that this might be a 68 leftover. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

Thanks, Kevin

It does not look like the one I have on my '69... It's base goes smoothly into a point and overall the lines are sharper less rounded than the one in the picture...

GM serviced that mirror for years and also used it on 75-79 X bodies. One way to ID a service mirror is the control knob. OE Camaro is metal; service black plastic.

ga8tor, Do you have a pic of your 68 mirror? And is there a date on it?

68 mirrors were a three piece mirror. Between the mirror head an the mount there is a adjustable sleeve to fit all chevy cars except the Vette and maybe Corvair. The pedestal, head an gasket, appear to be the same as a 68 piece with the exception of the sleeve and the notches for the different models.I have two 68 mirrors with a 6DMI8 code an have restored others.I hope this helps.

I have a remote mirror that came on my 68 SS396 car. I don't have a current picture of it and I can't describe it to you yet as I'm at work and won't be home until Tuesday the 28th. I do know it's in very good condition though!
