Chevy never had a 400 small block in any year Camaro (that I remember) from the factory. The car may be a factory SS car, but the engine isn't original .
The SS models in 69 came with either a 350/300hp or a 396/325hp- 396/350hp- 396/375hp. All had dual exhaust, front disc brakes ect. If the price is right it still is worth checking out. Cary

There is a guy in the next town selling a 67 SS with the original 454. He says its really rare, I say yea it sure is. Since they never came out with the 454 until 1970.It must of have been the time travelers car. Needless to say he got a little pissed.

Cool

Sounds like a used car salesman got caught at his game. Either that or someone was very naive. Way to Go ^5.

Unhappy

lets not forget GM's better idea with respect to the 2 barrel 400 small block and the 400 (402) four barrel big block in early '70's in the same cars (I think). pdq67

Also 400 SB's were made from 1970-80.

Thumbs up

pdq67 - you're right about the early GM cars. I used to have a '72 Monte Carlo with the 402 big block and my brother had a '70 or '71 Monte Carlo years ago with the 400 small block. Both cars needed every bit of the torque those engines produce because they're land barges.

Wink

I could be mistaken and I'll look it up when I get home...but I'm pretty sure 400 small blocks were built through '73...'74 at the latest.

Red face

Oops! Sorry I was wrong. I've got a book that shows block casting numbers through 1984 and the last year I can find for a 400 is 1976. It appears all 400s were 4 bolt main through mid '73 then they went to 2 bolt mains. But regardless, I can't find anything that shows a 400 small block as an engine option for a Camaro.
