need to know which way to put in my new divider, my car did not have one. does the jute padding go toward the trunk or the back seat?

Jute towards the trunk. I went through the very same thing a few weeks ago. Be careful, I got mine from Rick's, and the holes in the jute didn't line up with the holes in the cardboard. It turns out the jute was put on the wrong side of the cardboard so....... Jute towards the trunk.

that is how I currently have it, all my books seem to omit this detail

The books omit the detail because the factory installed trunk divider did not have jute on it. It was only a piece of cardboard.
