Unhappy

I was rerouting my oilline for my factory
console since someone left a couple extra
feet coiled up under the dash. I got a
standard farrell fitting and it is not the
correct one. it is barrel shaped and mine
is a half barrell shape. I then saw one in
a vdo gauge install kit and it looked wright.
but it leaks it doesn't appear to compress
the line enough. Nobody in town can match it
up, even machine shops.Any ideas?

I installed a factory console guage cluster in my 69. I bought it from Camaro specialty, I think there in New York and they sent me an oil line with the guages and it had a little orifice in each end. works good.

My experience was the same. The generic kits don't compress the seal correctly. I bought a kit from Classic Industries and got a good seal.

The correct plastic line has a brass insert in the end (where it seats in the bottom of the female fitting), and the compression ring is tapered, with two small slots at the end which helps it grab the O.D. of the line and compress the plastic against the brass insert inside the line. Regular 1/8" compression rings won't work, as you have found out. Rick's and others have the right kit (made by Classic), with the inserts and tapered/slotted compression rings already installed.

Regular barrel-shaped 1/8" compression rings (like you see in most aftermarket packages) will work fine, but only with the matching standard 1/8" plastic line and standard 1/8" female compression fitting; the factory female fitting is special, and only works with the special line with the insert and tapered/slotted ring.
