If I go to a salvage yard, will i be able to tell by looking if an old camaro or camaro z has the quick ratio steering by looking at the number on the casing? If not, is there another way of telling what ratio the steer box is? I know I am stupid here, but I could really use your expertise.

No, the only difference between a standard manual steering box, and the Z28 quick steer N44 manual steering box is the sector gear inside the box. The casting number on the boxes are all the same. The N44 system also uses a longer pitman arm, and shorter steering arms at each of the wheels.

Power steering boxes are all the same, they just use different combinations of pitman and steering arm lengths.

Question

On a related note, does anyone know which cars have the EXACT same power steering gearbox as a 69' Camaro? I looked on David Pozzis website, but only saw the list for disk brake conversions.......

Under products and services you will see where they rebuild power steering boxes-it costs about the same either way. I'm assuming you want a power box and not a manual-I didn't see where you specified which. If you're looking for a used manual box, I have one on my car now that I'm replacing with power-it's not quick ratio though. Hope this helps some!
