I read somewhere that the factory rear spoiler for 1st gens were not fuctional, and in fact they actually hurt performance at speed. My brick will be hitting speeds around 170, and considering the aerodynamics (or lack thereof) on these camaros I'd say I need all the help I can get. Where can I find a fuctional rear spoiler for my car? how about a deeper, fuctional spoiler for the front? Will I need ground skirts?

Also, I'd like to avoid the whole rice rocket look but if that's what it takes to keep my car (a 68) planted then so be it.

This issue has been addressed in previous posts. The rear spoiler was specifically designed by GM for use in Trans-Am racing and does provide a significant amount of downforce over 70 MPH.

There is a site that someone in a previous post referenced that has a very good story on the development of the "stock" spoiler package. Maybe someone else can direct you to it. If I remember correctly, GM even did wind tunnel testing to refine the designs.

Car Life did an excellent instrumented test of spoilers on a 69 Z/28 in the June 69 issue. There were 4 configurations: none, both, front only, rear only. The rear only developed 125 lbs downforce at 115 mph but the car was somewhat unstable. With both, rear increased to 130 lbs. Their favorite was front only, dropping frontal lift to 225 lbs. They felt it had enough natural rear downforce that a rear spoiler wasn't really needed.
