Question

Anyone know a good do it yourself header coating that will keep them from rusting, etc?

I used some of the POR 20 stuff made by POR 15. It is the high temp stuff that is silver. Its been on for about 3 years now and looks like the day I put it on. Here is the link to the stuff that I used. http://www.por15.com/hightempcoatings.html

Thumbs up

bose318, that's good to know. I have a set of big block headers that are black and I didn't want to have to send them in for coating. Did you have to bake them at all? Or is it a paint on deal?

You can either paint with a brush or spray it on with a paint gun. The stuff is pretty thin so I decided to brush it on. I used a foam brush, made sure the headers were completly clean and to bear metal (thats the very important part make sure you have them down to bear metal!) Then you let them dry. Put them on and run the car for a good 30 min a crusing speeds to cure the paint. You have to be careful when puytting the headers back in because you can rub off the paint and if you do just touch it up after they are in. Another thing, por makes a lot of other good stuff to use..I painted my engine with one of there engine painting kits and I get compliments at every show I go to...they all ask where I got it powder coated and I tell them I just painted it. If you are careful you can make your engine look like its wet! They make some great stuff!!

Think I'm going to give this stuff a try, did you use the POR20 - Bright aluminum? Anyone have pics?
