I'm working item by item to restore/repair my recently aquired '69 SS. The drivers side door latch (spring?) is broken. The door will close and latch only if I first flip the metal piece up prior to shutting. I've been told that they are not repairable and need replaced. Is that correct or can they be returned to life after some creative fixing? I'm inclined to try twice as hard to fix something if I'm told that it just can't be done. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!!

I wouldn't recommend any "creative fixing" to a safety item like a door latch - could lead to a real ugly surprise. Replacement is the right fix for this one, and is not a big deal.

JohnZ,

Thanks for your reply, I'll take your good advice and go for the replacement. What's another $100 when safety is the real issue.

THANKS!!!
