Question

I am going to look at what is being advertised as a 67 SS. I am more familiar with the 69-73 Camaros and need some hints as to how I identify this as a SS. Help

If it is a true SS the cowl tag will have the 4P code on it. It will have front disk brakes and a 12 bolt rear end.

Hope this helps.

Scott.

That's not quite true. A SS350 should have a 4P on the trim tag, but early cars don't have the code. And not all 4P cars are SS's. 4N and 4K are SS396 codes.

Post the #'s from the trim tag and VIN on Tag Team and we'll be able to help you more.

After looking this car over it was obviously not a very good clone, let alone an original SS. I am curious as to why the cowl tag calls out a V-8 and the VIN called out a V-6, or maybe the code book I am using is inaccurate. Anyway thanks for the help. If anyone knows of 67-68's for sale in the St. Louis area, let me know...I need a new toy

Disk brakes were optional on the SS also. My 67 SS350 has drums. I think all 67 SS had the traction bar on the passenger side. The 67 cowl tag has alot of info in it unlike the 68/69 cowl tag.

dthiel, When looking at the next car you go to purchase don't use the cowl tag to verify if it was a six cyl or eight. Only use the vin for that. Seeing how your still looking check out www.camaros.org for exactly what to look for. Some books have outdated information while CRG is constantly being updated as more information is found out. Good luck on your search

My 67ss/rs was ordered with drum brakes. It didn't come with a "traction bar" on it either. It's a '66 car.
I think '67 and 1/2 models had a "traction bar" on the passenger side and there was an earlier post asking about "dual traction bars" being stock.
All '67SS cars had either the 350 (early) or the 396 as an option (later). Also the 12 bolt rear was stock. pdq67

For Squarles.....not all 67 ss cars had a traction bar.

For everyone.....The 4th digit in the vin of a 67 will be either a 3 or 4. If its a 3, its a 6 cyl. and if its a 4 its an 8.

abd for Johnny.....My 10A 67SS has a large journal crank in it.

Hope this helps somebody.

All 350 motors were large journal. No exceptions.

I just sent an email to you. Do you have the rearaxle code?
