Request ALL 1970 L-78 owners with OEM tachs to respond to my survey. Does your car (Norwood or LA ) have 6500redline/7000maximum
or something else? Please respond so a partial conclusion can be drawn as to what was actually installed in cars. Thanks,, chuck sharin/Seattle (still searching for "my" L-78 and/or parts

I noticed the one on EBAy and I don't think it is correct for a '70 L-78. Should be Yellow 5700, Redline 6500, Max 7000.

You're right 70RS/Z28! I think that tach on ebay is a 73 Z28 tach. Here's an interior shot of a my friends 70 L78: You can see the 6500/7000 red line

X77D80- Is your friends 1970 L78 Camaro an original TH400 car? There was someone from NHRA asking if Chevy ever made a 70 L78 TH400 car and most of the replys were that none were made.

This White L-78 opens up another can of "worms". As a judge for the former U.S.Camaro Club (and more recently the W.C.A.) I was contacted by the NHRA on just that issue, the Turbo 400 L-78. In conclusion no one could prove such a vechicle ever came off the assy line. If the owner of this white car has verifiable evidence there are many who would like to be educated. A Los Angeles car could have a build sheet, P.O.P., or original window stickers. Everyone involved please come forward with PROOF Please!!!!! Chuck Sharin/Seattle

Looking at the webpage for the white car, notice at the bottom of the options list is "XXX" Customer Ordered" which would typically be listed this way on the buildsheet. Also, he shows the dealer and actual build day of the car so it's very likely he has the sheet. LA cars very often have the buildsheet on top of the fuel tank like the corvettes. Would be interesting to see a scan of the sheet. Nice car!

I'm almost positive he has the build sheet for his L78. I'll ask him tonight. He's owned the L78 a very long time. He also has a copule of RS Z's a 350 SS, a couple of base coupes and a hot rod. All 1970 (and all LA built). If you have any questions regarding this year, he's your man. Unfortuantely, he doesn't have internet access. He gets around cyber space using my computer once in a while...

X77D80 and others, Let me stress, that myself, the NHRA and other interested enthusiasts want all the facts on this L-78 FACTORY Turbo Camaro. As I previously stated there is NOTHING in the assy manual to support this.....nor has anybody stepped forward with any kind of verifiable proof. We know about the assigned CTY or CJL codes as listed in Alan Colvins books, but we are only looking for REAL evidence that any L-78 Camaro/Turbo 400 was ever built. Is the VIN # stamped on the trans??? Thanks, chuck/Seattle

Yes he does have the build sheet for the car. He bought it 20 years ago. He had no idea how rare the car was back then. He just thought it was cool to have a big block. In fact, he used it as a tow vehicle for his pro street 70 Camaro back in the early 80's (before the resto bug hit him).

X77D80 - Was your friend ever able to produce the buildsheet that showed the turbo 400 as factory installed?
