Hi guys, I recently bought a cherry floor console and automatic shifter off of ebay for this 67 I am playing with. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for laying out the shifter hole on the floor so I dont butcher my floor pans

Thanks, Danny

I converted mine last summer. I searched the posts here for information on where to locate the hole. I layed out the measurements that someone took from a body. They didn't seem exactly correct. I basically started with a hole just large enough to get the shifter stub through. I then enlarged it a little at a time until I could reach all gears. I then used the chrome ring for the shifter boot as a template to cut the final hole.

I did what Spitfire did, including using the chrome ring as a template. However, the hole is a little too big now...screws "very" close to the edge of the hole. Look at the rubber shifter boot where it sandwiches around the floor. You should estimate the reduction in size from the chrome ring, and remark inside the template. It's pretty easy to make the hole larger...but it's a b*tch to make it smaller!!

this is for an auto, right?those other guys must've been confused..easy mistake. never actually done it with factory consoles and what not, but what i would do is maybe set everything in the car as it will be bolted down, and figure out where to punch holes. for auto floor shifter cables, there is usually a little indentation in the tunnel where the cable hole goes-about 1 inch round and maybe quarter inch deep.drill about a half inch hole or so.i have also noticed dents where console bolts go in some cars, i suppose to make it easy on the assembly line.hope i could help.
