I dont know if I have ever heard anything about this. Will a big block fit under a standard hood?

A SS hood isnt that much taller than a standard hood is it? Did Chevrolet ever put a standard hood over a big block? or do you think that a dropped base would work with it?

I dont know about this swap, I am wanting a bigblock in a project Camaro, and my nephew wants too also. And he was asking me about it. I was'nt to worried I have a cowl induction for it. Thanks all

396/402 second gen, 396/427 first gen were stock big block, no bump on hood cars.

Even though the SS hoods are slightly buldged on the outside the underside bracing is the same as the std hood, as far as clearance anyway. Just keep in mind the BB cars that came with the SS hoods (non COPO's) didn't use very high intake manifolds

I have a 68 with a 396, and the manifold is a bit higher than standard. The stock hood would close but only with no air cleaner on. I ended up putting on a cowl hood with about a 4 inch drop air cleaner and it fits real tight.

I had a stock 69 SS 396, 375 hp Camaro convert. and it fit under a SS hood. It had a high rise intake and Holley carb from factory.

Cornholio - YES, the big block will fit with a manifold of either stock height or a little taller and a 7/8" drop base 3 by 14 air cleaner. My first big block in the pinkie was with the SP2P manifold, drop base, and the SS Hood. Everything fit very well.
