I have a '88 rs and my trans went out on me this weekend, so i got it towed to Martin Chev. and they said it would cost 2300+ tax for a brand new one. I didnt want to spend that much so i took it to a trans. place and they said they would rebuild it for $750. It that a good deal? Can i get a better deal?

Assuming you have the automatic and the 700r4, which it sounds like judging from the cost, you might want to check out These guys seem really good at them and their prices are good too from what I've seen. They quoted me $1020 for a very beefed up 700 that included the heavy duty convertor, and a $225 core charge. If you already have a core and convertor, so much the better. I am getting ready to order one for my '70 Nova, then maybe for my '71 Chevelle SS. Talk to Steve, he was glad to answer all my questions and begged for more...a really nice guy. Please e-mail me if you want any more of the info I got, but do check out their web site.
