my gas guage is stuck at about a half take PAST the full mark but after it sits for an extended period of time the gauge drops a little towards the full mark but not a whole lot. Any ideas out there?

i dont know man i have always had problems with my camaros gas gauges first with a 84, then a 89 and now the 97...they r not very accurate and everytime u hit the brakes the gauge dippes down or when u accelerate it goes up......and the other day i thought i was running on fumes the gauge was lower than than the red.....when i pulled in the gas staion and filled up it only took 13.5 gallons which means there was still like 2 gallons in there....i just learned to live with it.....

i have had this problem and i know it is aggrivating. first you need a 12volt test light open the trunk and look to the right side of the lock brace next to the right tail light you should see a brown or tan wire with connector to be sure pull down the tag and the wire should be on the right where it travels along the tank to the sending unit ground the test light with the switch on the light should light and the guage should fall to E if this happens then you either have a bad sending unit or a bad ground. the ground is a black wire soldered to the sending unit on top of the tank the wire usually is grounded under a 5/16 head screw on the passenger side of the car where the tank mounting strap mounts this is usually the problem i find if this dont help let me know you can test with a donor sending unit from another vehicle also look for rust at the pin where it goes through the rubber grommet on the sending unit.check this with an ohm meter if you remove the sending unit from the tank make sure the black plastic cover has not fallen off the thin metal strip that carries the current to the sender. hope this helps and dont confuse you jp
