I've got 3/8" braided lines running from my fuel tank to a Mallory filter and a Holley red pump and from the pump to the hard line. Under the hood, I have the same lines running from the hard line to fuel pressure gauge, through a filter to the carb. I've noticed that the gauge is alternating between reading steady and wildly jumping almost full deflection. Any ideas on what to check? I don't think it's the pump as it did the same thing with a mallory pump that I replaced.

No, it's not liquid filled, and it's a Russell gauge.

I get the same thing although not quite the degree you do. Perhaps it's due to the electric pump. Anyway, unless you have a liquid filled gauge to dampen the movement, I think it's normal due to the pump pulses. You just about have to do an eyeball averaging!
