On the 69 RS headlight switches , when you pull it on does it switch the vacuum mechanically or by means of electric over mechanical function ?

I.E.; Can I check out a 69 RS headlight switch by simply applying vacuum (which does nothing as I test it now) , or do you have to have the switch plugged in and powered up to switch the vacuum on and off ?

Thanks !

The vacuum RS switch for 68 & 69 is mechanical. There is 2-port vac fitting on the switch. The fitting is sealed by internal rubber boot contained within a small metal slide. The slide has a lug bent at 90ļ to engage the switch slide mechanism. This lug can break off leaving the system inop.

Someone did a slide repro. They are easily removed. If you have a factory gauge car the h/l switch is different so don't discard it.

I may be able to help you out...
I have an original RS w/gauges switch that has a broken case. Everthing works on it...but it won't stay together.

Let us know what you find...

Any idea who makes the slide repro? How different is the switch for gauge vs w/o?
