Do vintage air systems require the heater hose connections? The pics of that orange car with shaved body does not seem to have the hoses in the engine compartment.

Yes. Maybe they opted for AC only and didn't connect the heat for the sake of looks.

Vintage Air systems are contained entirely INSIDE the car - nothing goes through the firewall - heater hose connections are inside, and the hoses can be brought out into the engine compartment wherever you like; easy to route and hide them so they can't be seen except at the engine end.
