OK I have owned a 68 and worked on countless other 1'st, 2'nd and 3'rd gens.. however I STILL do not know what this is.. Please excuse my ignorance on this one.. I am just tired of not knowing and being to embarrassed to ask.

No embarrassment among friends. The Protect-o-plate or POP was issued from the factory & given to the original owner of the car. It include all of the options available on the car as well as the owner's name & address. Today, they are like tiny little pieces of gold, because like a build sheet, it is one of the few documents that will tell the exact options of your car.

The plate was attached to the vehicle warranty card, the dealer attached the buyers name and address to it with a plastic tape,and was used to keep track of all warranty work done on the car. It was used in a machine like the old credit card machine to imprint the information on the warranty paperwork. It also states that it should remain with the car at time of resale.
