Question

I took the lens cover off my heater control for cleaning. Upon removal a small strip of black paper fell out along with the small green lens. Where exactly does this small strip of paper go. From the imprint on the paper it looks as though it covers the top half of the green lens (to block some of the light) does anyone know for sure ?? Thanks for any help.

I have a theory on the black strip of paper. I could be wrong on this, but I think the black paper started out as tape to hold the green lens in place during installation in the dash.

I have taken apart and restored several of these and never found any thin black strip. Previous post may be correct - could have been tape. Or maybe someone wanted to dim the back light a little. Not sure why you would need it. When re-assembling, the lens should hold the green plastic in place (in the cut-out slot).

I've only taken 2 apart, 1 a 64 chevelle, the other a 57 chev. Both had black piece of paper behind lens. Don't know exactly why, but thinking for light reflection maybe? I don't know about the camaro controls.

The black piece of paper is FIRST put on the heater control unit and then the lens is installed. It's purpose is to help diffuse light so that ONLY the markings on the switch become illuminated when a light source is present (when dash lights on on).

The black piece of paper SHOULD be the same size and have the same cutouts (3 vertical slots) for the levers as the lens plate does.
