I bought a 68 years ago and i dont know how to tell if it was a true Z-28? it has the emblems, no build sheet, just the vin# and the cowl tag, which dont help me. is there any secret #'s anywhere? or options that only came with the Z-28? any info would be very appreciated. thanks, and drive like you stole it!!hee please e-me.
There is a lot of things to look for, Z/28 wher only coupes, they had a 302cid 290Hp enngine coded MO, original 12 bolt rearend, multileafs rear springs, 4 spd manual shifter (M21 or M22), front disc brakes, 15" x 6" wheels, take a look at the sticker tire in the glove box door size should be E70 x 15, dual exhaust system (look for the hanger on the rear end), etc.
They were also all fast ratio steering. If it is it will have Different steering nuckles PNs 3954879 and 3954880.The pitman arm will also have a different casting # 3953227. The duall exhaust hangers are a good way to tell if it was at least a performance optioned car.the bracket is welded to the frame rail just behind the drivers side rear tire.Plus the usual like a twelve bolt, multi leafs, disc brakes.Tach was not mandatory.Bye a book and start checking codes and options. The Definative 67/68 Z/28 fact book is great. Good luck.
