Something isn't right here. The 12437 in your VIN number and on your Cowl Tag indicate a 2dr Sport Coupe, not a convertible. Here's what the numbers break down as.

VIN = 124378L337189
12437 = Camaro 8cyl, 2dr. Sport Coupe
8 = 1968
L = Los Angeles
337189 = Unit Number starts at 300001

Cowl Tag
10B = October 2 week
J609 = I have no info on this number it is only found on Los Angeles cars and to my knowledge it has not been decoded yet.
ST 68 = 1968
12 = Camaro
4 = Constant, reguardless of body style or engine.
37 = 2dr. Sport Coupe
LOS = Los Angeles
00339 = Fisher Body Sequence Number, not the same as the VIN.
TR 722 = Standard Gold Buckets
T = Palomino Ivory
1 = ? but 1 usually stands for White vinyl or convertible top

It is possible someone has converted your car into convertible from a coupe. There is no way to tell if your car was an original RS by the numbers. The only way to tell for sure is to have the POP or the build sheet.

Sorry your car isn't a factory convertible.

Good call Bryan - convertible is '67'! I saw the White convertible top (TR 722 T-1 PAINT and didn't pay much attention from there! For '68 a '6' is the White vinyl top... What do you think? Does he put the top down to wash the roof of this coupe? Kidding aside, jegcuevas68 whats your take on this?

The cowl tag confirms you have a convertible. I bet someone replaced VIN plate. Is it possible the car was stolen from a previous owner?

Converting a coupe to a convertible would be a serious undertaking.

I agree

The VIN tag appears to have been replaced.
This VIN coincides with a build date of
mid to late April 68.

I believe the cowl tag to be original.

The real VIN could be stamped on the cowl
if you look on the pass side thru the vent
below the windshield wipers. At least this is
true on 69 models.

I agree, too. Your VIN # and body plate are not from the same car! Perhaps someone welded on a dash top from a coupe and didn't change the vin plate to match the car. conv. dashes rusted out a lot. WHAT VIN IS ON THE TITLE! You could have a real problem here.

You guys picked up this mismatched set of tags quickly.
I couldn't make any sense of it (I was looking at body #'s). Now, with that correction, it looks like someone put the coupe VIN (built 04B/C) on a convertible. Pretty common. Another problem: that color was discontinued in December.

The partial VIN will still be visible thru the cowl vent on the passenger side. Could you post the # from there?
