Does the temp light turn just prior to starting the car? As you turn the key to turn it on, there is a stop just prior to starting, when this happens my oil / fuel light up but my temp does not. I'm wondering if this is normal behavior. Thanks!

What year? I think my 68 is like that and I thought I might have a bad bulb or circuit board

Lightbulb

Opps... see what happens when I post before drinking my coffee It's a 68 SS Camaro. How hot should it get before the temp light comes on? I think your right that it won't come on, but it's wierd that the others do when it's in "start" position. I do know the bulb isn't blown since I hooked it up to the negative post and it comes on.

the temp light test only comes on during cranking. During cranking, ground is supplied to test the bulb. This ground is supplied through the ignition switch itself. After cranking (and in the on position), the ground would be supplied by the thermal switch in the cylinder head(if and when it gets too hot) causing the switch to short o ground and illuminate the temp light.

Hmmm... well I got my temp light to come on, not how I wanted though I guess I overheated the car because the temp light came on just as I was pulling in my drive way the other day. It was hot outside and I did have a heavy foot that day, I'll check my thermostat.
However the temp light doesn't come on during cranking nor the on position. My oil / fuel lights come on in the accessory position and in the on position. It's much dimmer in the accessory position but while I crank the engine no idiot lights are on. Is this normal behavior? I'm begining to think so, since the temp light seems to work.
